🏁 LIMITED EDITION 100 “NASCAR CHAMPIONS Art Series” by Alex Book Art 1950 NASCAR Champion Driver: Bill Rexford Car: Oldsmobile Futuramic 88 Team / Owner: Julian Buesink Official race name: 100-Mile NASCAR Grand National Race Date: Tuesday, May 30th, 1950 Racetrack: Canfield Speedway Location: Canfield, OH Track stats: 0.5-Mile Dirt Oval Landscape & Architecture: Canfield Speedway Main Grandstand This artwork is part of my “NASCAR CHAMPIONS Art Series,” a historically focused collection dedicated to the men, machines, and circuits that shaped American stock-car racing in its formative years. Each print is released as a Limited Edition of 100 and created entirely by hand using traditional techniques. My guiding principle remains unchanged: Authenticity, precision, and historical accuracy in every stroke of my brush. I am Alex Book, an automotive artist and motorsport historian. My work combines detailed archival research with classical drawing and painting methods. For this series, the surrounding world—grandstands, track surface, spectators, and atmosphere—is rendered in ink drawing with watercolor accents, inspired by early graphic engravings, while the race car and driver are executed in oil painting, giving them weight, presence, and mechanical character. This particular artwork portrays Bill Rexford, the 1950 NASCAR Grand National Champion, driving the Oldsmobile Futuramic 88 entered by Julian Buesink. The scene is set during the 100-Mile NASCAR Grand National Race, held on Tuesday, May 30th, 1950, at Canfield Speedway in Ohio. The half-mile dirt oval, with its modest banking and packed clay surface, represents a defining chapter of early NASCAR competition. The main grandstand dominates the background, anchoring the scene in its original architectural context and reflecting the regional character of Midwestern short-track racing. Each subject in this collection is offered in two giclée art print formats, allowing collectors to choose between focused technical detail and full historical composition: full vertical composition showing the car within its racing environment, available on white or light beige backgrounds. All prints are produced as premium matte art prints on 175 gsm museum-grade archival paper, using pigmented archival inks selected for durability and tonal accuracy. Every print is carefully hand-rolled in protective tissue and shipped in a reinforced tube or triangle box. The artwork is supplied unframed, allowing for custom presentation. This series is intended for collectors, historians, and dedicated motorsport enthusiasts who value depth, research, and craftsmanship—artworks created not as decoration, but as historically grounded documents of racing’s early champions. Unframed print, hand-rolled in protective paper and shipped in a rigid tube. Made in the USA from globally sourced materials.
