The first, Ashes to Ashes, works well for novice Keepers and players, while Signs Writ in Scarlet provides a deeper and more widespread mystery to challenge experienced players. Ashes to Ashes is a one-shot scenario suited to three to six players and can be played in one or two sessions.While set in London, it may be relocated to any large town or city in Victorian Britain. The investigators are assumed to be working-class employees at Lange's Dust Yard, a disposal center for the city's trash, although a broader range of investigators is possible. Signs Writ in Scarlet is a deadly sandbox-style scenario sand ideally suited for experienced Keepers.
