John Weitz (1923-2002) is a German designer who naturalized as an American.He began his career in the 1950s. Initially, he devoted himself to women’s sportswear. In the early 1960s, he turned over a new leaf and chose to focus on men’s wear. He was among the first to understand the growing importance of men’s fashion. His style was classic, combining the American concept of practicality with his refined European education.RESUME:Born: Berlin, Germany, 25 May 1923; immigrated to Britain, 1934, and to the United States, 1940; naturalized American, 1943. Education: Studied at the Hall School, 1936, at St. Paul's School, London, 1936-39; apprenticed to Edward Molyneux, Paris, 1939-40.
