Vintage Space Age ‘74 Big Ben Futura Mechanical Windup Alarm Clock in Silvertone

This 1974 Big Ben Alarm Clock by Westclox represented the Space Age’s future look and feel of clocks according to Westclox. The sleek minimalist exterior in chrome and black pays homage to the modern styling of the Art Deco period while the 70s font and uranium glow paint on the numerals point to the “modern” yet to come in an already atomic developing world. The astronaut helmet shape of the case and lens further underscores the developing space race at the time.

This one works beautifully. Simply wind and then shake it a second or two and you’ll recognize that wonderful tick tick sound that these clocks make. This would look great in any MCM setting with just about any decor. It would also look great in a modern loft setting on an end table, console table, or shelf.
