1930’s Shalimar extrait – fully corded with evaporation, original 1920s formulation (red and blue “province et en Belgique” import sticker) in a 0.676-ounce (2/3-ounce or 20ml) Chauve Souris Baccarat acid-etched (number 18 at the base and tip of stopper) crystal flacon standing 4.13 inches (10.5cm) tall. The Baccarat insignia can be seen by looking down into the footed base at a slight angle or by viewing the bottom edge of the import sticker. There are some tiny flea bites at the bottom edge of the base (see photo) which are difficult to see with the naked eye.
Originally launched in 1925, Shalimar (named after the garden in Kashmir built by Indian Shah Jahan in memory of his wife) is one of the first fragrances to incorporate large amounts of vanillin into its composition. The scent of Shalimar is densely constructed, with a cascade of many notes, including bergamot, tonka bean, real iris oil, and vanilla.
